WHAT: Countryside Live A day out covering all aspects of country life.

Eat and drink: Around the event there are stands with the best of the region's food and drink on display, from Yorkshire cheeses and meat, to handmade toffees and fudge to gluten free goodies. There is a food court with a range of hot and cold snacks and drinks, and inside, there's the Vista cafe with a selection of hot meals and snacks.

WHAT: Chester Antiques Show The most prestigious event of its kind in the northwest.
See: 50 stands of furniture, art and artefacts from the past 300 years.
Eat and drink: Catering at the show is excellent with Restuarant 1539 offering gourmet food and wines – on the first floor, with a floor to ceiling glass front overlooking the whole Course. For those with less time to linger there is the Turf Restaurant on the ground floor with a quick service and still very high standards.

WHAT: Supersonic Festival The 10 year anniversary of a festival showcasing new music, film and art.
See: Performances from Sir Richard Bishop, Carlton Melton and Tim Hecker.
Eat and Drink: There are a range of food stands and bottled water, soft drinks and alcohol are also available to buy on these stands. There are also a variety of restaurants in the Supersonic alleyways and a tea and cakes room in the Market Place. For further choice there is a newsagent just outside the Old Library stage, that allows customers to use their microwave and kettle for items that require it.

WHAT: The Battle of Ideas Two days of high-level, thought-provoking, public debate organised by the Institute of Ideas.
