Review: Indigo at Rich Mix

Great tasting Indian food that won't break the bank.
On first glance I wasn't sure what to make of this latest India street food venue. Not your usual Indian restaurant (thing heavy white table clothes and garish wallpaper of paint choice adorning the walls), Indigo feels more like a canteen come café than a restaurant.

This laid back style makes for a relaxed atmosphere, perfect for enjoying some of the best street food India has to offer.

To start my guest and I ordered Papdi Chaat and Pav Bhaji (as well as the customary poppadums). Ppadi Chaat is a common fast food option when it comes to street food in north India. Incredibly simple, the potatoes, chickpeas and yogurt mixed with spices and sauces is quite simply, simple good food. No fuss but all the taste. The Pav Bhaji, a hugely popular dish in India, originating from Mumbai, was my preferred of the two dishes, the mashed vegetables created a sweet sauce with a kick of spice.

For the main dishes my guest and I shared the grilled chicken tikka and lamb biryani with rice and naan. Thankfully the mouth-watering aroma from the plates match the tastes enjoyed. Although the street food theme is lost when it comes to the main courses, but the great flavours will soon rid that thought from your mind.

If you can manage a dessert they stock Mövenpick ice-cream which is probably the best ice cream ever but not really Indian street food so a tad disappointing.

Very reasonably priced, greatly placed in the heart of Shoreditch (making it perfect for a pre-drinks dinner, both for location and for the fact eating there won't break the bank), and most importantly, amazing food, Indigo is definitely my new favourite Indian.
