Review: Zizzi, Spring Menu
Launched yesterday, we went along to try one or two of the 12 delicious new dishes.
As there are no new additions to the starters, my guest and I opted for some traditional Zizzi classics. The calamari with garlic and basil aioli dip and the Cicchetti Platter which includes: Arancini risotto balls, chicken and pepper skewers, oven baked king prawn skewers, mini calzone with spicy n'duja sausage and a tomato and buffalo mozzarella salad with a chunky peperonata dip, are a failsafe option and safe to say we devoured the lot.
For the main we went for two of the new dishes to the menu, the Spiedini pescatore and the Rustica trentino fresca pizza.
The Spiedini pescatore (which is also available with chicken) is a Zizzi first. As we opted for the seafood we were treated to a Mediterranean hanging skewers of roasted of King prawns, salmon, sea bream, peppers and courgettes Served over Tuscan potatoes with a white wine and lemon sauce.
Not only does this dish look pretty but it tasted great too. Despite it slightly getting in the way, thus having to peer around it to chatter with my friend, we thoroughly enjoyed the dish. The potatoes were delicious and seasoned to perfection and the sauce complimented the fish perfectly. The sea bream was the highlight, again, thanks to the perfect seasoning.
Both the seafood and chicken version are less than 600 calories so are guilt free. But it wasn't the most filling of dishes.
As we decided to share our mains the pizza filled up any space we had left after the Spiedini. Topped with buffalo mozzarella, speck, baby plum tomatoes, rocket, and grana padano, the pizza packed a flavoursome punch. All of the toppings go on after cooking which gives it a much fresher and lighter taste.
The only downfall, and I have to be very picky to find one, is that speck is the hardest thing to cut through with a pizza cutter!
Although our starter and main left us suitably full, it would just be too rude not to try one of the new desserts on offer.
We opted for the Lemon Meringue Sundae and the Chocolate Toffee Nut Sundae. Although I didn't feel the bowls they were served in did the desserts any justice, once we got down to the important job of tasting, we soon didn't care. The chocolate Sundae is the perfect combination of sweet and salty and the lemon meringue sundae packed a citrus punch, a very refreshing dish.
In the heart of theatreland, you can be spoiled for choice when it comes to dining options. But a combination of delicious dishes at a reasonable price and friendly attentive staff, even when the restaurant was incredibly busy, well you can't go far wrong.
