MY GRANDMA’S REMEDIES: ARTICHOKES
Recent research has found that they can help to ease indigestion and other digestive complaints, such as irritable bowel syndrome, and they are a natural diuretic.
They have also proved useful in treating some liver/ gall bladder problems as they promote the ow of bile through the body – bile moves toxins from food through the liver, thus making artichokes a great detoxer.
Artichokes are also a good way to help treat and prevent high cholesterol, because of the high levels of luteolin. They are also thought to boost the immune system. Full of vitamins and the aforementioned antioxidants, such as quercetin, which helps to protect against heart disease; cynarin and silymarin, which are both thought to help the regeneration of liver tissue; and anthocyanins, which are thought to lower the risk of certain cancers.
