HOME REMEDY: Tea

When I heard there was going to be a section dedicated to tea in this issue, I was thrilled. Not only am I a big fan of the ‘bread, jam and cake’ kind of tea (I’m afraid it’s my favourite meal of the day), I also love teas for home-remedy reasons. Making a pot of tea with your garden or hedgerow bounty is the easiest way to get to its goodness.

In brief, here are my top three herbal teas from easy-togrow or -gather British plants – or you can probably find them as tea bags in good health food shops.
1. Rosehip tea Perfect at this time of year, packed with vitamin C to ward off colds; taste is refreshing and not too sharp. 2. Chamomile This summer, I grew the wrong type of chamomile for tea – far too acrid. But get the right one and this makes the most soothing and relaxing of all teas I know.
3. Mint Just two or three fresh leaves per cup are all that’s needed, plucked from a pot of fresh mint, available in any supermarket. This makes the best aid to digestion and can be rather energising, too.
