WHAT: Jim Shaw at Simon Lee Gallery
The imagery in this exhibition is constellation of superheroes, Blakean mysticism, quixotic reveries, and underpinned with his religion Oism. He reconciles fantasy, myth, reality, and dreams; such liminality and interpenetration of realms is signified through the profusion of different mediums he employs. The opportunity to look at artistic masterpieces from the last Ice Age, which have a creative inception of 10,000 to 40,000 years ago, where many of the works are fashioned from mammoth antler and reindeer antler. One of the most prominent carvings is a sculpture, from Lespugue, France, which Picasso was fixated with; it inspired his 1930s sculptural works. This exhibition encapsulates the elemental human longing for expression through art; it serves as the conduit through which we comprehend the self and our position in the world.

WHAT: Landscape to culture: John Bridgeman
This is the first posthumous exhibition centred on the work of the sculptor, John Bridgeman, who is head of sculpture at Birmingham art school. The exhibition will feature drafts and preliminary work of his final project, the Unknown Refugee, a carving in honour of all those rendered destitute by war. This work was not completed at the artist's death, but will become a centrepiece in Coventry Cathedral following the 70th Jubilee celebrations in 2012.

Lesley examines the corporeality and spirituality enmeshed in the fabric of life, weaving antithetical concepts of chaos and stability, heat, light, energy, and motion. Her work is rooted in scientific foundations such as the chaos and superstring theories as well as from her expeditions to Laos, India, and Cambodia, where she imbibes and responds to the ambient poetry of the rhythm and tone of a particular location or culture. She eschews the conventions of painting by ocular scrutiny, and instead refracts the image through the psychedelic prism of her imagination and sensibility, aspiring to evoke ruminative and inquisitive impulses and stimulate erotic gratification.

WHAT: The Bride and the Bachelors, Duchamp with Cage, Cunningham, Rauschenberg and Johns
Exploring one of the most significant epochs in the history of art, The Bride and Bachelor's is the first exhibition, the nexus of which is Marcel Duchamp's legacy, and the influence it had on four illustrious modern artists: composer, John Cage, dancer and choreographer, Merce Cunningham, and visuals artist, Robert Rauschenberg, and Jasper Johns. They appropriated and developed his concepts and practice, dramatically changing the trajectory of art in the 1950s and 60s. The incorporation of art and life gave rise the dawn of Pop Art. The exhibition includes around 90 works. Foremost contemporary artist, Philippe Parreno has orchestrated a vibrant and experimental dramatisation of the exhibition shaped by the choreography of Cunningham and compositions of Cage. Live 'dance' events are performed by members of the London Contemporary Dance and Richard Alston Dance Company on Thursday evenings and weekends throughout the span of the exhibition.
