MY GRANDMA’S REMEDIES: LAVENDER

The column where Melonie Clarke shares her grandmother’s health wisdom
Apart from looking delightful in a vase and smelling lovely, lavender has many health benefits. The oil is widely used in aromatherapy to calm and soothe the body (used with a di user in your room, it will help you get a good night’s sleep), but it is also an effective and gentle dandru remedy. After washing your hair, mix several drops with warm water and comb through. Leave for a while, before washing it out. After a few applications you should start to see a difference.

Polyphenols in lavender help to reduce bad bacteria in your gut. Try dried lavender sprinkled on yogurt or cereal. This will also help to ease bloating. Dried lavender sprinkled on roast potatoes or meat also adds a tasty, healthy twist to your meal. Lavender has anti-inflammatory properties, too. A couple of drops applied to the affected area eases itching and reduces swelling. It is also a chemical-free perfume.
