The column where Melonie Clarke shares her grandmother’s health wisdom
Apple cider vinegar is a traditional ingredient of salad dressing, but there are so many more uses for this product. It helps to regulate the pH of your skin when used in place of a toner and can help fade age spots and acne scars. It also has a balancing effect on pH within the body, helping to maintain a healthy alkaline pH level, which is believed to boost energy – high acid pH can lead to a lack of energy, heartburn and an increased susceptibility to infection. Research has shown that it can also help stimulate cardiovascular circulation and can help to detoxify the liver.
When added to a bath it can ease the discomfort of sunburn. Rub it directly on to teeth to remove stains (but don’t forget to rinse with water afterwards). It can also aid weight loss, increase the body and shine of your hair when used after shampooing, and is thought to be successful in removing warts.
As well as many health benefits, it can come in handy when you are spring-cleaning your home.
