HAVE A KNIGHT OLD TIME

Medieval activities to enjoy around Britain
ALNWICK CASTLE
Seat of the Duke of Northumberland, Alnwick holds several medieval craft days during which you can learn everything from making herbal soaps to decorating your own tiles. Children are encouraged to dress up while taking part in the craft days. For the adults, unleash your inner Robin Hood and have a go at archery. The castle also hosts numerous art exhibitions.

HEVER CASTLE
If you love the idea of jousting but don’t fancy jumping into the saddle yourself, Anne Boleyn’s childhood home, Hever Castle in Kent, holds several tournaments throughout the year. So sit back, cheer, and watch someone else get knocked o‚ff their mount.

LEEDS CASTLE

Knight’s glamping at Leeds Castle in Kent is a great weekend away for the family. Stay in one of the eight pavilion tents, which are based on a medieval design, but come complete with electricity, a wood-burning stove and a four-poster bed. There is also an area where you can light a …fire (and enjoy toasting marshmallows) and have your own barbecue. This is camping at its best. You can also enjoy falconry displays, tours of the castle, boat rides and punting on the river – or just get lost in the maze. The glamping site is open until 29 September.
